Lawrence L. Lamade has extensive experience in advising business enterprises in implementing and administering employee benefit plans, particularly qualified and nonqualified deferred compensation and stock compensation plans, and medical, life insurance and other welfare benefit programs. In addition, he has represented retirement and welfare plans, including Taft-Hartley and church plans, providing advice to the trustees of these plans about their fiduciary duties in structuring investments and interpreting the prohibited transaction rules involving party-in-interest dealings.
In connection with Lawrence’s plan representation, he has arbitrated numerous disputes regarding eligibility for benefits, in particular with regard to Taft-Hartley plans. He has advised clients on the implementation and perpetuation of benefits in strike situations and actively participated in negotiating and implementing benefit sections of collective bargaining agreements.
In addition to his general ERISA practice, Lawrence has assisted businesses in implementing creative strategies designed to make the provision of employee benefits more economical. These strategies include self-funded plans and the use of captive insurance companies. The implementations of these strategies have been applied to retirement, medical and life insurance plans.
Lawrence also has an active Middle East and North Africa Practice and represents government agencies, corporations, as well as members of the Royal Family with matters such as investment, joint ventures, contracts, international litigation, and management of personal financial affairs.
